Not a wild goose chase
The Parish Council have been made aware that one of the wild goslings on Wear pond has damaged wings. We have contacted a professional organisation who have advised it is a congenital defect and the goose will not be able to fly. The geese are wild birds and they migrate. The parents often return to the same breeding grounds each year and they will chase off any remaining offspring, as they did this year. On this basis, the gosling with the defective wings has now gone to a lovely private rural home in Essex where they will be very well looked after.
Many thanks to those who helped safely catch the goose, and the person who has kindly taken them in. Below is a picture of the goose in their new home.
