National Grid – Norwich to Tilbury Pylon Consultation

National Grid have submitted their planning application to the DCO (Development Consent Order). The Parish Council have registered to have a say the DCO review.  We submitted the same response  that was made on the National Grid statutory consultation (see below).

Update from Pylons East Anglia

Pylons East Anglia are currently raising funds to pay for professionals to support the response and also to pay for the Kings Counsel Charles Banner.  Please see the following information on their crowdfunding.

As part of their environmental initiative, they been running a project on iNaturalist UK to observe and record the wildlife, trees, hedgerows, flora and fauna along the pylon route including within the Draft Order Limits.  Please click on the link below which shows you how to make an observation on an iPhone which will hopefully help get people started.

The National Grid Statutory Consultation for Norwich to Tilbury has now closed.

National Grid is proposing to upgrade the electricity transmission system in East Anglia between Norwich and Tilbury. The Project includes a new 400 kilovolt (“kV”) electricity transmission connection of approximately 184 kilometres (“km”) in overall length from Norwich Main Substation and Tilbury Substation via Bramford Substation.  The parish council strongly objected to the statutory consultation.  Writtle Parish Council response to Statutory Consultation

Writtle Parish Council has also strongly objected to the previous consultation.  Please click on the following link to see the response from the non statutory consultation in August 2023. FINAL Writtle Parish Council response to the National Grid Consultation August 2023.  The council will be considering its response to the current consultation over the forthcoming weeks and will upload it here.  This is a chance to for everyone to have their say on the proposals and it is important for residents to respond.

The council held its Annual Parish meeting on Monday, 15 April and was pleased to have Rosie Pearson in attendance from Pylons East Anglia as one of its guest speakers.  Rosie suggested several ways that residents could object to the consultation including responding to the consultation, signing the petition, and displaying posters.

Details on the National Grid project can be found on their website –  http://www.nationalgrid.com/n-t.

National Grid are proposing to build approximately 183 km of transmission infrastructure from Norwich to Tilbury as part of The Great Grid Upgrade.   The proposed 180+km route for the new line, which would run mostly over ground via 45-50m steel pylons, would pass through Writtle.  The proposals form part of The Great Grid Upgrade and was originally called the East Anglia GREEN project.  The new transmission line would connect offshore wind generation to the grid.  Details of the project can be found under Norwich to Tilbury – https://www.nationalgrid.com/electricity-transmission/network-and-infrastructure/infrastructure-projects/norwich-to-tilbury

Writtle Parish Council continues to strongly object to the plans.  The parish council are part of the NW and SW of Chelmsford Parishes Group and have responded to the consultation as part of the Parishes Group.

They have published an interactive map and consultation materials with the latest project information on their website, along with details of public information events and online webinars. Please visit nationalgrid.com/norwich-to-tilbury.
