Parish Council
Parish Council Meetings are held every month (except August and January), on the first Monday of the month at 7.30pm in the Parish Office, The Green, Writtle, CM1 3DT
Writtle Parish Council is a civil local authority and is the first tier of local government. It is an elected corporate body, has variable tax raising powers, and is responsible for the parish of Writtle.
There are 9,000 parish and town councils in England. Over 16 million people live in communities served by these local councils, which is around 25% of the population, and about 80,000 councillors serve on these councils. It is calculated £1 billion is invested in these communities every year. Their activities fall into three main categories: representing the local community, delivering services to meet local needs, and improving quality of life and community well being.
Writtle Parish Council provides and maintains a variety of local services including allotments, bus shelters, the car park at Paradise Road, open spaces, crime reduction measures, events, sports facility at Paradise Road, litter bins, public toilets, planning, street lighting, traffic calming measures and the village green. These existing powers were strengthened by the 2011 Localism Act, including the extension of the “General Power of Competence”.
