A reminder to please slow down through Writtle
From April, the Parish council have employed the Community Engagement Team from Maldon District Council to carry out regular speed checks in Writtle. The team provide TRUCAM speed patrols and work in partnership with Essex Police, Safer Roads Partnership. This means the team are able, through the partnership, to issue tickets for speeding drivers. The team are only able to speed check approved sites, for Writtle this is currently on Ongar Road and Lordship Road.
In the past 7 months they have carried out 54 patrols and captured 230 speeding drivers. The vast majority were caught at the Ongar Road and the parish council have requested that the team focus on this area going forward. They have captured a number of drivers exceeding the 30mph speed limit in Ongar Road, the fastest recorded was 48mph, 18mph over the speed limit.
We have also two speed indicator devices in Ongar Road and Lordship Road which capture speed information.
