You are invited to walk the Writtle Heritage Trail

Heritage Board Writtle

The Writtle Heritage Trail is now open!

The walking trail starts at Wear Pond on the Green.  Search for the lectern by the noticeboard for details.  The route takes you primarily around the historic village centre, around the two village Greens and slightly beyond. The trail describes the important physical features of just over 40 buildings, 21 of which have green plaques, detailing their current and former uses.

We have created a leaflet to provide details about the other heritage buildings and sets out the historic background, as the village.

This short circular walk, takes just over an hour and is generally flat.

The route is shown on the map, with written instructions and a full description accessed using the QR code or collecting a free trail leaflet from the library (45 The Green) or the parish office.

Take care when following the trail, especially when near traffic and crossing roads. Please respect resident’s privacy. Do also explore the many village footpaths, for example, to Hylands House and Park.

Most of all, enjoy our village’s rich heritage!

Many thanks for Writtle Heritage for funding the trail.
